Alamgir Mosque

Alamgir Mosque Situated on the banks of the Ganges River in Uttar Pradesh in the northern part of India, Varanasi is one of the oldest and the most prominent religious cities of India. The city has various types of sightseeing places which include temples, ghats, cultural centers, forts and mosques. The Alamgir Mosque, Varanasi is one of the significant tourist attractions in the city.
Located at the Panchganga Ghat, this mosque is also known as Beni Madhav Ka Darera. It was originally established by Aurangzeb. The Alamgir Mosque, Varanasi features a fine combination of Hindu and Mughal art and architecture. This marvelous mosque is built on the site of the Vishnu Temple. In the past, there was one of the most ancient shrines, the Temple of Bindu Madhava. This reflects a smooth coexistence of the Hindu and the Muslim religions.

The Alamgir Mosque, Varanasi overlooks the Panchganga Ghat which is considered to be a sacred bathing place. Interestingly, the lower part of the mosque still features a Hindu temple. The exquisite design of this mosque indicates the rich artworks of ancient India.
