FEROZEPUR CITY
Ferozepur is located in southwestern Punjab, about 176 kms west of Chandigarh, and 120 km south of Amritsar, Ferozepur is on the border of Pakistan. Ferozepur City is one of the fastest growing cities in Punjab with a population of two million persons. The attraction of Ferozepur is its living environment.The city is famous for good quality of rice.

HISTORY
As per the annals of history, ferozeshah tuglaq founded the city in the 14th century. However it is also believed that its founder is ferozekhan, one of the bhatti chiefs. Having a rich heritage, it indeed has maintained its name in the undivided India it has been a centre of trade and commerce.

Ferozepur with the numerous holy shrines, historical places and memorials in and around, has earned a rare status. The hallowed samadhis of the martyrs bhagat singh, rajguru and sukhdev, the saragarhi, gurudwara are some of the places piligrimage showing the spirit of universal brotherhood.

Dead bodies of the hero- martyrs, Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev, who had been executed at Lahore on March 23, 1931 by the British Government for raising a revolution against the British Government, were cremated stealthily in the darkness of the night here. Every year on March 23, a fair is held when thousands of people gather to pay homage to the great martyrs

Saragarhi Memorial Gurudwara

Commemorates the battle, which took place on Samana Ridge of the Hindu Kush and Sulleiman. Ranges in 1897 when 21 soldiers of the 36 Sikh (later 4 Sikhs) regiment had died fighting to the last man against a several times greater force of the local tribal chiefs. The history of the battle is taught in French schools and forms part of the 8 narratives of collective bravery published by UNESCO. On 12th September every year thousands of people and ex-servicemen pay homage to _the celebrated heroes here.

How to Reach Ferozepur
District comprises three tehsils/subdivisions, viz. Ferozpur in the middle, Zira on the east, Fazilka on the southwest. All-important places in the District are connected by rail or road.

Almost 11 km from the Hussainiwala border on the west and 121 km from Ludhiana in the east lays the City of Firozpur, the headquarters of the District administration. By road, it is 116 km from Amritsar, 130 km from Jalandhar, 122 km from Ludhiana, 103 km from Bathinda (via Kot Kapura), and 86 km from Fazilka. The city lies on the Firozpur Cantonment-Ludhiana Branch Line of the Northern Railway.

Situated quite close to the Indo-Pakistan boarder, it is well connected by rail and road. Four km from the Firozpur Cantonment, the Firozpur City is on the Fazlika-Firozpur Cantonment line of the Northern Railway. By road, it is connected with Fazilka (87 km), Abohar (121 km) Malaut (81 km), Kot Kapura (41 km), Ludhiana (121 km) and Kot Ise Khan (50 km).
