History of The City

Jorethang at an elevation of 1,700 feet (518 meters) is a bustling town and an important transportation hub for South and West Sikkim.

It is not an important tourist destination but attractions include the Akar Suspension Bridge and the Sisney Temple. However, Jorethang is a gateway to Rinchenpong where one gets to experience Sikkimese village life and the hot springs and holy caves of Reishi.

Jorethang becomes vibrant in January when the town hosts the annual Maghey Mela which showcases the culture of the locals.

Nearest airport is Bagdogra in North Bengal which is 124kms and approximately 3 and half hours drive from Jorethang.There are Indian airlines and other airlines services operating from Bagdogra linking Kolkota, Guwhati and New Delhi.
