Gatore Ki Chhatriyan, nestled at the foothills of Nahargarh Fort in Jaipur, serves as the royal crematorium for the Kachwaha Rajput dynasty. This tranquil site, established by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II in the early 18th century, is a testament to the grandeur and architectural brilliance of the Rajput era. The term “Gatore” is believed to derive from the Hindi phrase “Gaye ka thor,” meaning the resting place of departed souls.
The site features beautifully crafted cenotaphs (chhatris) dedicated to various Kachwaha rulers, each unique in design, reflecting the personality and achievements of the king it commemorates. These chhatris blend traditional Hindu and Mughal architectural styles, adorned with intricate carvings, delicate frescoes, and exquisite latticework.
